Speed reading is a necessary and vital skill in the Internet age.We skim over articles,
e-mails and tweets to try to grasp key words and the esntial meaning of the text. With so
much information available through our electronic devices,it would be impossible to get
through everything if we read word by word, line by line.
But a new trend calls on people to unplug and enjoy reading slowly, one which claims to
have benefits beyond intellectual stimulation.
A recent story from The Wall Street Journal reported on a book club in Wellington,New
Zealand, where members meet in a cafe and turn off their smartphones. They sink into
comfortable chairs and read in silence for an hour.
Unlike typical book clubs, the point of the slow reading club isn't to exchange ideas
about certain books, but to get away from electronic devices and read in a quiet, relaxed
environment. According to the story, the Wellington book club is just one example of a
movement started by book lovers who miss the traditional way of reading.
Traditional readers, like Maura Kelly, say a regular reading habit sharpens the mind,
improves concentration, reduces stress levels and deepens the ability to understand
others. Some of the benefits have been backed up by science. For example,a study of 300
elderly people published by the journal Neurology last year showed that mature people who
take part in activities that u their brain, such as reading, suffer less memory loss as they get
older. Another study published last year in Science showed that reading novels helps people
5
understand others' mental states and beliefs一a key skill in building relationships.
Yet technology has made us less careful readers.Computer and phone screens have
changed our reading patterns from the top-to-bottom,left-to-right reading order we
traditionally ud,to a wild skimming and skipping pattern as we hunt for important words
and information.Reading text online that has many links to other web pages also leads to
weaker comprehension than reading plain text. The Internet may have made us stupider, says
British journalist Patrick Kingsley, only half joking.Becau of the Internet,he claims we
have become very good at collecting a wide range of factual tidbits, but we are also gradually
forgetting how to sit back, think and relate all the facts to each other.

When I was a child I never said, "When I grow up, I want to be a CEO," but here I am. When I
look back on my career, I realize the road to becoming a CEO isn‟t a straight, clearly clarified path. In
fact, no two paths are the same. But whether you want to be a boss one day or not, there‟s a lot to learn
from the stories of how leaders ri to the top of successful companies.
As this ries of stories shows, the paths to becoming a CEO may vary, but the people in that
position share the qualities of devotion, work rules, and most importantly, a strong desire for building
something new. And every CEO takes risks along the way—putting your life savings to start a
software company or leaving a big business to be one of the first employees at a startup.
I grew up in Minnesota, and learned how to be an entrepreneur(企业家) from my father, who has
run a small business for almost 30 years. I went to Georgetown University and tried a lot of business
activities in college with varying degrees of success. And I always had a dream job pattern: to walk to
work, work for mylf and build something for consumers.
I‟m only 29, so it‟s been a quick ride to CEO. Out of college, I worked for AOL as a product
manager, then moved to Revolution Health and ran the consumer product team. In mid-2007 I left
Revolution Health and started Living Social with veral other colleagues, where I became a CEO.
Career advice: Don‟t figure out where you want to work, or even what industry you‟d like to work
at.Figure out what makes you do so.What gives you a really big rush? Answer why you like things,
not what you like doing…and then apply it to your work life. Also, just becau you‟re graduating,
don‟t stop learning. Read more books than you did in college. If you do, and they‟re not, you‟re really
well-positioned to succeed in whatever you do.
Read the stories in this book and you‟ll certainly be inspired.

To build a successful relationship is something like putting up a building. First of all, you should
start with an idea which is expected by everyone, and then you can put a solid foundation stone for
that idea. Putting a strong foundation stone is very important becau it keeps your building steady.
Every part of that building is totally depending on that solid foundation.
So, here are the three rules to establish a successful relationship:
The first rule is just having fun. Once relationship is established then the things become stable.
Once it gets stable then you start feeling bored and fun is no longer there in your relationship. But
