今年的端午节也就是农历五月初五又到了!

大家都知道的端午节可以赛龙舟、吃种子。可我今年却过的

不一样。

早晨我睁开了眼睛，闻到弟弟在吵闹的声音。走出来一看，

他们正在吃种子呢!我迫不及待地刷完牙便抓起一个种子津津有

味的吃了起来。中午十二时，我和弟弟去洗“健康澡”。不一会我

和弟弟在水中打起了“水杖”。

……

虽然我家没有挂艾草。但我过了一个有趣的端午节。

今天是端午节了，但我不知道端午节的来历。妈妈告诉我，

战国时期，楚国有一个叫屈原的大臣，小人对皇上说了屈原的坏

话，皇上不再信任屈原，就把他流放到远方，他很伤心就跳河殉

国了。老百姓们为了纪念他，就往河里扔吃的东西，最后形成了

端午节。

端午节我们吃粽子，系彩绳，赛龙舟，真是热闹非凡呀!

小朋友们，你们喜欢端午节吗?我们吃粽子的时候别忘了学

习屈原的爱国精神呀!

Today is the Dragon Boat Festival, but I don't know the origin

The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated (falls)on the fifth day

of the fifth month of Chine lunar calendar.

As one of the traditional Chine festivals, it has been

enjoying great popularity in honor of the Chine great poet Qu

Yuan living in the Warring States Period. He committed suicide

by drowning himlf in Miluo River for political reasons. The local

people decided to throw a particular food called “Zongzi” into the

river to prevent fish eating his body.

Today, people eat Zongzi, have dragon boat races and wear

colorful threads around wrists to bring good luck. And now it has

become one of the national holidays in China.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is

celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the

Chine calendar. For thousands of years, the festival has been

marked by eating zong zi (glutinous ricewrapped to form a

pyramid using bamboo or reed leaves) and racing dragon

festival is best known for its dragon-boat races,

especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers

and lakes. Thisregattacommemorates the death of Qu Yuan , an

honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by

drowning himlf in a river. The dragon-boat races symbolize the

many attempts to rescue and recover Qu's body. A typical dragon

boat ranges from 50-100 feet in length, with a beam of about 5.5

feet, accommodating two paddlers ated side by side.

At the end of the Zhou Dynasty, the area we now know as

China had fallen into a state of fragmentation and conflict. While

the Zhou dynasty had ruled for veral centuries, veral other

states, originally feudal domains, tried to carve out their own

kingdoms. The state of Qin would eventually emerge the victor

and unify all of China under one rule for the first time in history.

Qu Yuan rved as minister to the Zhou Emperor. A wi and

articulate man, he was loved by the common people. He did

much to fight against the rampant corruption that plagued the

court-- thereby earning the envy and fear of other officials.

Therefore, when he urged the emperor to avoid conflict with the

Qin Kingdom, the officials pressured the Emperor to have him

removed from rvice. In exile, he traveled, taught and wrote for

veral years. Hearing that the Zhou had been defeated by the

Qin, he fell into despair and threw himlf into the Milou River.

His last poem reads:

Many a heavy sigh I have in my despair,Grieving that I was

born in such an unlucky time.I yoked a team of jade dragons to a

phoenix chariot,And waited for the wind to come,to sour up on

my journey

As he was so loved by the people, fishermen rushed out in

long boats, beating drums to scare the fish away, and throwing

zong zi into the water to feed braver fish so that they would not

eat Qu Yuan's body.

The Modern Dragon Boat Festival started from that time to

this day, people commemorated Qu Yuan through Dragon Boat

Races, eating zong zi, and veral other activities, on the

anniversary of his death: the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

Dragon Boat races are the most exciting part of the festival,

drawing crowds of spectators. Dragon Boats are generally

brightly painted and decorated canoes. Ranging anywhere from

40 to 100 feet in length, their heads are shaped like open-

mouthed dragons, while the sterns end with a scaly tail.

Depending on the length, up to 80 rowers can power the boat. A

drummer and flag-catcher stand at the front of the boat. Before

a dragon boat enters competition, it must be "brought to life" by

painting the eyes in a sacred ceremony. Races can have any

number of boats competing, with the winner being the first team

to grab a flag at the end of the cour. Annual races take place

all over China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and other overas

Chine communities.
