第一节 (15题,每题2.5分,满分37.5)

A Natural History of the Future

Over the past century humans have made great technological achievements with which we have found ways to

control nature. From river dams (大坝)to huge one-crop fields, we continue to try to change nature for our goals so

much that it ems we may be in danger of influencing it riously.

In A Natural History of the Future, biologist Rob Dunn thinks that nothing could be further from the truth: rather

than asking whether nature will let us live, we’d better ask whether we will let nature last. Although we try our best,

or worst, to control the biological world, life has its own laws, and no matter what man does, he cannot change them.

Explaining veral basic laws of ecology (生态), Dunn shows why life cannot be stopped. We grow one single

crop on the field, only to find new life appearing to attack them. We throw away poisonous (有毒的) waste, only to

find microbes (微生物) taking it over. And even in the London Tube, we have en a new type of mosquito appear

to take advantage of a place that is clearly not fit to live. Life will not follow our plans. Instead, Dunn shows us the

future of living things and the challenges that the next generation may face.

A Natural History of the Future ts a new standard for understanding the different kinds of life and our future

as a kind of creature.

The day before, he wrote that he was “in the zone” and thought he could make it to the end without stopping.

Heading soccer balls ems to take greater injuries on women than on men, according to a new study which

focud on the brains of soccer players.

Head knocks can really hurt the brain. Female athletes tend to suffer more brain damage than males do after

injuries, the study points out. But until now, no one had directly compared damage in men and women after heading

balls.

Michael Lipton, a brain-imaging expert at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in NewYork City, led the

rearch. He noted, “It’s important to figure out how males and females might be different after brain injury. Hopefully,

determining how the xes differ after brain damage will help choo better treatments for each.”

Rearchers cho 98 soccer players from amateur teams. The players estimated how often they had headed a

ball in the past year. The average headers among men were 487 while women 469. The rearchers then studied the

brain scans of each player looking for signs of damage. They ud a special type of scan to highlight changes in the

brain’s white matter. White matter is made up of fibers (), which carry electrical signals from nerve cells in one

纤维

part of the brain to tho in another. So damage to white matter affects how well the brain works. The scans turned

up more widespread brain damage in the female players. In women, eight regions showed potential damage linked

to frequent headers. In men, only three regions did.

The brain changes studied here weren’t big enough to cau brain damage. But repeated blows to the brain can

contribute to memory loss, depression and other problems. One bigger concern is CTE, which can lead to confusion,

trouble remembering things and emotional outbursts. Rearchers don’t know why women’s brains appear at greater

risk. Differences in their heads and necks may play a role. So might genetics and hormones.

8. What does the new study focus on?

A. To find out the differences between men and women. B. To contribute to treatments for brain injury.

C. To prevent soccer players from getting hurt. D. To make a breakthrough in soccer skill study.

10. How was the rearch carried out?

A. By interviewing soccer players. B. By studying the brain scans.

C. By using a computer model. D. By referring to former studies.

11. What can be learned from the last paragraph?

A. It is hard to identify brain damage. B. The study proves to be a total failure.

C. Reasons for brain damage remains unclear. D. Mental problems cau physical differences.

D

Technology has changed almost every way of our life and now it ems to be the time to update education

systems around the world. Children and young adults make up one-third of the Internet urs, so it’s no surpri that

they are more hyper-connected () than their parents.

In a survey of 1,400 educators, most of them believe that classrooms of the future will be centered on

personalized learning. This student-centered way will allow children to choo their own pace () and learning

节奏

goals bad on personal interests, all of which can be guided by artificial intelligence (AI), chatting robots (chatbots)

and video-bad learning.

AI in education specially focus on telling what a student does or doesn’t know, and then develops personalized

cours for each student. Chatbots are also quickly becoming a key tool in the next generation education. Designed

to simplify the exchange of ideas and information between students and computers, chatbots provide a lot of benefits.

Although video-bad learning may not necessarily be considered as creative as AI or chatbots, 98% of the educators

view it as an important part of personalized learning experiences. Some schools report bringing video teaching into

their cours in some way, but even higher demand for video-bad learning may come from students in the near

future.

The new classroom learning style is completely different from the traditional learning style and is considered to

be a great change in how students get information. However, rearch has shown that children will keep getting

information from books besides screens. Obviously, low-tech schools are more likely to believe that human

interaction is important when it comes to keeping children interested and excited to learn.

Although we may not be in the age of online teachers, the benefits of technology as a teaching aid are true.

However, what’s more important is that the aids are helping keep students rather than technology at the heart of

education.

12. What will future classrooms focus on according to the survey?

A. Self-paced learning. B. Learning without goals.

C. The teacher-centered way. D. The traditional learning way.

13. What are chatbots ud to do?

A. Create wealth. B. Train educators.

C. Improve communication. D. Develop cours.

14. What can we learn from paragraph 4?

A. Low-tech schools are on the ri.

B. Children will completely depend on screens.

C. The way to get information should be changed.

D. Students will still get information from books.

15. What is the text mainly about?

A. Why education is s important.

B. How robots will replace teachers.

C. How technology shapes the future education.

D. Why computers will play a role in the future education.

Life never really turns out the way we expect it to. We have dreams and expectations. And dream-come-true

As a child, Barbara never quite found the bond with her parents that all children need. Her father left the family
